Chicos Y Chicas is our program specially designed for junior students ages 9-15 who have completed “La Pandilla 2” or another equivalent program.

At this stage students are more aware of the language and need almost no visuals and introductory materials to comprehend the target language. Instead, language is prompted through classroom discussions and debates, dialogues, interviews, listening to tapes, and more. The course’s level of language production expected of children at this stage is equal to or higher than the level of receptive skills (listening and reading) or the amount of language input/exposure. Students are encouraged to comprehend, read, write, and even recall orally much of the language previously introduced. They are much more conscientious about sentence formation and structure and are encouraged to use complete sentences to express themselves. Fun role playing activities and language games complement the more academic activities as a way to keep and reward the student’s interest and participation.

Reading and writing skills are developed systematically with our age-appropriate textbook. Events unfold in a fun way, in the student’s own environments. The textbook takes a dynamic and contemporary approach to learning, still within a classroom and cross-themed environment. It contains more than 18 chapters called “The Hispanic World in your Backpack”. Each chapter refers to a Hispanic country, teaching about cultures that speak Spanish around the world, and in the US.

Chicos Y Chicas Course BooksStudents are introduced to new words and grammar, which are taught in the context of the themes. As in all our programs, activities revolve around the theme of the day. Themes include birthday parties, friends, classroom, daily life, family, safari park, free time & vacations, past activities, hobbies, shopping, fashion, food & recipes, sports and life in 2084 (the future).

We use a variety of language teaching resources, such as learning games, fun materials, visuals and audio-visuals, flash cards, instructional table games, and movement games.

Chicos y Chicas - Daily Schedule & Activities

Language fun: Students are introduced to the new language words and structures to be taught according to the theme of the day using a great variety of language teaching resources such as learning games, concrete and fun materials, visuals and audio-visuals, flash cards, and instructional materials.

Music and video: Music and video are used as effective teaching tools since students learn many new words, accents and structures through listening to music or watching educational videos from many Spanish-speaking countries.

Listening comprehension: Listening to the course’s original characters is used as an effective teaching tool since students learn great pronunciation from hearing Spanish native speaker children talking.
