2 HR. / WEEK
“Primaria 1 & 2” are our after school courses intended for 6 to 9 year old bilingual children, who have completed our previous courses or similar ones elsewhere (determined after properly evaluating the student’s Spanish background).
The main emphasis of these courses are still the development of the listening and speaking skills, but now complemented more thoroughly with reading and writing.
The courses incorporate sentences and texts in a fun and holistic way (based on the functional and communicative approach) as well as projects and exciting activities such as music, table games, art, science, role-playing, and cooking.
Primaria 1 & 2 - Daily Schedule & Activities
Books / Skill development: All skills are developed systematically thanks to our excellent and age appropriate course book series, which are the same as the books used in the Official Curricula in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, and many Latin America/European countries. The books, specifically designed to enrich the alphabetizing experiences of 6 and 7 year-old native speakers in the 1st and 2nd grades who are also continuing to learn the world of the written language, are a great tool that complements and reinforces all classroom activities.
The book series integrate all aspects related to the written language introduced in previous courses, now emphasizing critical thinking and reading comprehension skills.
All activities presented are meaningful and adapted to the student’s level, promoting the development of all skills through visuals and different types of texts (both communicational and fictional).
The books include stickers in the final pages to enhance the learning experience even more.
Science, Geography, History, Literature, Math, and Social Studies: The course books also incorporate content learning through subjects.
Art and Science: Through art and science projects children continue learning Spanish through guided crafts and basic science experiments.
Music and video: Music and video are used as effective teaching tools since students learn many new words, structures and Spanish varieties through music and educational videos from Spanish-speaking countries.
Storytelling and shared reading: Some of our reading techniques involve shared reading, dramatization and characterization, and role playing. Reading comprehension skills and learning strategies are also introduced during this activity.
Cooking: Traditional Hispanic foods cooked and served by the children (quesadillas, guacamole, and more) give students a great chance to learn recipes and the language related to food, meals and nutrition.
Spanish immersion trips: These optional Spanish Immersion Trips to Uruguay are a chance for our students and their families to become immersed in a fully Spanish-speaking culture. Students will be fortunate enough to spend several days in a local school in Punta del Este. They will immerse themselves as fully as possible in the culture while studying and mastering their Spanish. Families will provide volunteer service across an assortment of educational situations. Each year, the group also hopes to have extra money to donate to the schools for supplies and/or for school projects.
